I’m calling it now: Spout Kitchen Garden is the best place to eat on the Wirral.
If your ideal weekend consists of the holy trinity (that’s brunch, wholesome time outside and a slice of cake to fuel the lazy afternoons), I can confidently say you’ll love Spout as much as I do.
I’ve been gatekeeping this place by not sharing more about it on the blog sooner, but having rhapsodised about Sprout to virtually everyone I know, I figured it was time to let you guys in on the secret.
Not convinced? Let’s delve in deeper to this Sprout Kitchen Garden review. Or perhaps more accurately, 700+ words of fangirling.
Not got time to read? Pin it for later!
Where is Sprout Kitchen Garden?
You’ll find Sprout nestled in Premier Plants of Ledsham, just five minutes drive from J5 on the M53.
That’s right, you can tie in a trip to a dreamy garden centre that’s actually focused on plants not tat – sorry to the kitsch tea towel lovers, but they’re not for me! In the spring, look out for their stunning wisteria arches and canopies which have been on my wish list ever since I first set foot in there years back.
While garden centre cafes are always a treat, it’s worth stopping for Sprout alone – yes, even in the depths of winter where a roaring fire will welcome you.
What’s the brunch like at Sprout Kitchen Garden?
Sprout has an absolutely top brunch menu with all the classics you’d expect, and then more. Some of my particular favourites are the Sprout crumpets and smashed avocado, with a special shout out to their apple crumble pancakes that are never a bad idea.
There’s a small team so you’ll receive great service each time you visit. Now that Sprout has exploded in popularity, there’s sometimes a bit of a wait on food but luckily, their delicious drinks menu will keep you entertained until then.
Unless it’s boiling hot out, you’ll usually find me with one of their hot chocolates (choosing between Biscoff, white chocolate & pistachio and Malteser is NOT easy) but their selection of tea, coffee and iced drinks is equally impressive.
Dietaries are marked really clearly on the menu too – you’ll find veggie, vegan and gluten free options easily.
Lunch & Sunday roasts at Sprout
While brunch is the star of the show for me, lunch at Sprout is equally delicious. They’ve evolved from offering tasty small plates to a classic menu including fresh soup, risotto and of course, sandwiches.
I’ve actually never had the pleasure of trying their Sunday roast, but reports from foodie friends & family have said it’s the best roast they’ve ever had ‘out’. When the only person who can trump it is your mum – well, that’s two big thumbs up in my eyes.
Introducing…Little Sprout!
Born in June 2024, Little Sprout is the cute sibling to her big sister, serving up bagels, sandwiches, freshly baked treats and drinks at Premier Plants of Heswall.
I visited for the first time just this morning and can confirm it’s just as gorgeous as the OG Sprout. We managed to bag ourselves a spot in the sunshine to enjoy their hot honey burrata focaccia and it really lived up to the 10/10 photos on their Instagram!
Let’s also take a moment for their gorgeous branding – I can’t get enough of the stunning illustrations that adorn every takeaway cup and sandwich wrapper.
Not only am I thrilled to have a slightly closer options for grab ‘n’ go goodness, it’s lovely to see a local independent grow a loyal following and expand.
When can I visit Sprout?
If you’re heading to Sprout Kitchen Garden, it’s open until 4pm all week long. You’ll definitely want to book on a weekend, unless you’re happy to wait for a walk-in space – usually outside these days.
Little Sprout is open 09:00 – 16:00, Wednesday – Sunday. They don’t take bookings, but with only a couple of tables, plan to take your butties away unless you get lucky!
In short, Sprout is one of the few cafes I’ve genuinely visited and over, without having a single bad experience. I’ve been with friends, for family meals and brunch dates, yet still I’m excited to go every time.
If you want to find the Wirral’s best brunch, look no further – that title has been well and truly claimed.
Now, all it needs is an alcohol license so I can hold all my future birthday parties and events there…
