Cosmo Hotel Kuala Lumpur: hotel review [2024]

After months of hostels and guesthouses at bargain rates, it was time for a treat. You have to end a huge adventure in style, right? We were looking for comfort in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and Cosmo Hotel ticked all our boxes.

Cosmo Hotel KL lounge

When we stayed, it was the new kid in town having opened its doors just a few months earlier in December 2016. Location? Steps from Masjid Jamek LRT station and if you’ve ever carried a backpack in 30 degree heat, you’ll understand what a blessing this is. It’s surrounded by restaurants and Central Market, famous for souvenir shopping, is just five minutes walk away.

As we stepped through the door into air conditioned bliss, the first thing that caught my eye was the amazing feature light.

I’m like a magnet to all things shiny – give me some fairy lights or an impressive display and I’m in love.

After a warm welcome in the spotless marble lobby, we were shown to our room on the thirteenth floor. As the door swung open, we couldn’t quite believe our eyes. We were standing in our own little living room, complete with seating area, flat screen TV and mini bar!

It took a lot of willpower not to dive headfirst onto the sofa and devour the entire fruit bowl right there. Uncool maybe, but is there really anything better than getting overexcited over the little treats?

A sliding door opened onto our bedroom, a simple room twice the size of many that we’d stayed in across Asia! It even had a little walk-in wardrobe space so I took full advantage and unpacked everything. Being excited at the sight of a few hangers – you could say that living out of a backpack was wearing thin.

With a busy few days exploring Kuala Lumpur ahead, we decided to spend a relaxing evening in our suite. While my companion settled into watching our second flatscreen in the bedroom, I took advantage of the gorgeous bathroom. I’m usually a shower gal through and through but the novelty of a bath was calling. My soak was utterly blissful, complete with a divine scent from the complimentary toiletries.

There is also a walk-in power shower for those pressed for time. I squeezed mine in at 5am – albeit very blearly-eyed – before our 17 hour flight back to the UK.

After my bath, it was time to snuggle up in bed. So much for a wild evening in a new city hey? But honestly, getting to relax under a duvet, eating fruit and watching TV was pretty damn great.

My verdict

We couldn’t get enough of the Cosmo Hotel! The only thing it fell down on a little was breakfast. The buffet offering was some local options or mainly continental Western options and I just couldn’t get used to the whole noodle-for-breakfast thing. Otherwise though, we had a really lovely experience. Our minibar was restocked daily and each evening, turn-down service left us fresh bottles of water which came in really handy. We particularly adored the comfortable beds, spacious rooms and the incredibly friendly staff.

If this review has piqued your interest, why not book a stay at the Cosmo Hotel?
